The flag of Belize was adopted in 1981, on Belize Independence Day. It includes the national coat of arms located in the middle of the flag on the blue field with two horizontal narrow red stripes at the top and at the bottom. The coat of arms of Belize corresponds to the historical background – the logging industry which constituted the main part of the country’s export in the colonial period.
