The flag of France is a vertical triband whose bands are colored as follows (left-to-right): blue, white and red. It was adopted in 1830. Red and blue colors are the traditional colors of Paris: red is associated with Saint Denis, Christian martyr, blue is associated with Saint Martin of Tours, bishop of Tours. In modern representations, there are two versions of the flag: one with lighter colors, the other one with darker gradations, however, the lighter version is far more common and considered the main one.
