The flag of Syria is a horizontal triband with bands colored red, white and black (top-to-bottom). On the white band there are two five-pointed green stars that symbolize Egypt and Syria. The colors of the flag represent the dynasties but also have additional meanings: the red stands for bloody struggle for freedom, the black represents oppression, the white represents peaceful future. The flag was adopted in 1980.
