The flag of Sweden represents a Scandinavian cross with a yellow cross centered in relation to vertical axis and shifted to the hoist-side. The field of the flag is blue. According to a legend, Eric IX of Sweden, Swedish king that ruled in 12th century, saw a golden cross in the sky during the First Swedish Crusade. He adopted this sign as illustration of his banner. The flag of Sweden was adopted in 1906.
