The Azores is one of the two autonomous regions of Portugal (the other one is Madeira). On the Flag of the Azores, there is a golden goshawk and a semicircle of 9 golden stars above it. This composition is located at the juncture of two background colors: blue on the left and white on the right. The top left corner of the flag is emblazoned with a traditional Portuguese shield, part of the Portuguese coat of arms.
