The flag of Madeira is a vertical triband whose bands are colored blue, gold and blue, the gold band being in the centre. On the yellow band there is a white Cross of Christ with a red border. The Cross symbolizes Madeira’s connection to Portugal since it relates to the Portuguese medieval order. The flag was adopted in 1978.
